Award Recognition Program

In addition to the award of fond memories of great musical experiences and camaraderie, each band member has the opportunity to earn end-of-the-year awards signifying their commitment to musical excellence. PSHS is proud to recognize students who go above and beyond the “norm” in the band classroom. At the end of the year, students are selected by the directors to receive the following awards:

All 1st year members in our band program will receive a Certificate.

 

In addition to the First Year certificate, students have the opportunity to earn certificates and a plaque that will be awarded based on active participation in ensembles or experiences requiring a significant time commitment. The points are cumulative not only over the entire school year, but throughout your high school career. Students have the opportunity to earn points for the following awards:

 

400 points = Bronze Achievement Certificate

950 points = Silver Achievement Certificate

1450 points = Gold Achievement Certificate

1950 points = Platinum Achievement Certificate

2400 points = PSHS Achievement Plaque

 

Returning students who have not accumulated enough points to earn the next award level will receive a participation certificate.

 

Here is a list of possible activities and their corresponding possible points that can be earned. You are always welcome to ask about earning points for something not listed below.

 

Band (All students): up to 250 (based on daily participation/preparation & performance attendance)

Chamber ensembles (trio or larger): up to 30 (not counting the required Chamber Concert, i.e. Collage concert, etc.)

“Classical” Concert Attendance: up to 10 per concert (5 for MS concert); must provide program to director)

Community Ensemble Member: up to 100 per ensemble (per year with verification letter from ensemble director)

Concerto Competition: 30 for auditioning, 50 if selected

Drum Majors: up to 40

ILMEA: 50 for auditions, 75 for Festival, 100 for All-State

Jazz Band: up to 75

Pit Orchestra: up to 75

Pep Band: up to 75

Private Lessons (on band instrument): 50 (per semester with verification letter from lesson teacher)

Section Leaders (Marching Band): up to 30

Solo/Ensemble: Solos: 50 – I, 30 – II, 15 – III; Ensembles: 35 - I, 10 – II or III; additional 10-Best In Room

SPC Festival: 20

Student helpers: up to 10 per time

Summer Music Camp: up to 50 (not the PSHS camp, but one at a college or other community camp)

Wind Ensemble: up to 25 (1st semester), up to 50 (2nd semester)
